The prelude is a time for us to clear our minds and prepare our hearts to corporately worship God. We encourage an attitude of silence as well as a reflective posture during this special time.
WELCOME SOPHIA KATHERINE VAZQUEZ
The rusebud on the chancel this morning is to welcome Sophia Katherine Vazquez to the world. Sophia is the first child of Joe and Jennifer Vazquez.
THANK YOU NORA JOHNSTON FOR PLAYING WITH US
Please welcome, Nora Johnston, daughter-in-law of Ruth Johnston, who will be playing piano arrangements with Donna Marie Hartley that are written for one piano, four hands. Her husband, Rob, Ruth’s son, is the Pastor of the Ajo Presbyterian Church. They are on vacation for a week and she volunteered to play for us.

FAMILY ASSISTANCE OFFERING TODAY
From time to time our church families are in need of short-term financial support. For this purpose, the Board of Deacons has established the HFPC Family Assistance Fund. A special offering is collected on a quarterly basis to help fund this program, although donations may be made at any time throughout the year. Today you will find an envelope in your bulletin for the January offering. We ask you to prayerfully consider making a contribution to aid those families in need.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY HIGHLIGHTS
Here are some highlights from General Assembly, the top governing body of our denomination [Presbyterian Church (USA) or PCUSA.] 1) Through something called authoritative interpretation there is now a loop hole for practicing homosexuals to achieve ordination on a case by case basis. This authoritative interpretation wiped previous rulings and opinions out. Candidates for ordination can take exception, as a matter of faith and practice, with certain standards currently in the book. 2) An overture will go to all the 171 Presbyteries for vote that would change the Book of Order by removing language that speaks of “fidelity in marriage and chastity is singleness” and replace it with language that speaks of keeping the standards of the church. 3) The General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to keep the traditional definition of marriage as something between a man and a woman. It voted against marriage as defined as between just “two people”. For further details check the denomination website at www.pcusa.org/generalassembly/ or speak with Pastor Nathan.
